Rhys is a performer based in New York. Born of two Antiguan parents, they grew up in Athens, Ohio where they earned their BFA in Musical Theatre with a minor in dance at Ohio University. Rhys and their classmates in OU's inaugural MT class found themselves carving their own paths in the new era of musical theatre. Part of their experience included playing Anatole in the first collegiate production of "Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812", a show written by OU alumni, Dave Malloy.
As a performer, versatility is key for them in everything they do. They are fascinated by how music and movement exist separately and consecutively to create powerful storytelling. They remain extremely grateful for the abundant support of their family both near and far. When Rhys isn't performing, they are probably watching Avatar, The Last Airbender, knitting, or making earrings.
While at Ohio University, Rhys became a Co-Founder, Co-Coordinator of Community Outreach & Engagement, and Co-Executive Producer of a theatre collective called Vibrancy Theater. This was pioneered at the height of the BLM Movement in 2020 by former professor and playwright, Charles Smith. This is an organization for BIPOC students to create work that speaks to them in ways that our school would not understand and/or endorse. Alongside numerous classmates, colleagues, and life long friends, they participated in discussions around how we can decolonize performance in order to create more inclusive spaces.
